Arau
Masjid Negeri Perlis serves as both the state mosque and the royal mosque, standing directly opposite the palace. Tuanku Syed Putra laid the foundation stone on 18 March 1972, his fifty-fourth birthday, and opened the finished building in February 1976. It holds 7,000 worshippers under a main dome set twenty metres above the floor. The design follows Moorish lines. The mimbar came from the Old Arau Mosque that stood on this site, carved in Penang and completed in 1905.
